King’s Academy Lord Wilson is a mobile phone-free site. This policy is designed to enhance student focus, strengthen social connections, and reduce cyberbullying and online risks.
We want to see our values visible from the moment our learners step onto our school site. Just like at an airport, our pupils clear security and passport control with their ‘3 Rs Passport’ each morning. Our ‘3 Rs Passport’ benefits our school’s community by ensuring we all feel safe and are ready to learn.
What does this look like as a student at King’s Academy Lord Wilson?
The process for students is:
- Your taxi will drop you off in the carpark
- You’ll be met by our members of staff who will greet you with a smile and say good morning. (BLE)
- You will make your way to the double doors by reception
- To show us you are responsible you will be in full school uniform.
- To show us you respect our learning environment you will hand over the phone and any other items you are not allowed in school.
- To show us you are ready to learn you will complete our checks calmly and sensibly and move to breakfast
If you’re not quite ready to complete your 3 R’s Passport there’s no need to worry. We’ll make sure that we have everything you need; spare school uniforms and storage for your items.
Please be assured that we will provide you with all the necessary equipment, to be successful across your school day. At the end of the day you will collect your items from the same location as in the morning, before getting into your taxi.
To make sure that everyone is ready to learn we cannot allow anyone onto the school site without having their 3 Rs Passport stamped. To celebrate getting through passport control, each day we will stamp your passport and your tutor will issue you with a golden ticket. This gives a chance to win an Amazon voucher in each Friday’s assembly. Your passport will also show you when you have earned your ‘Golden breakfast.’
A Mobile Phone Free Site
From the time students arrive on campus until the end of the school day, mobile phones are turned off and stored securely in our safe. During breaks and lunch, we encourage everyone to step away from screens, socialise, relax, and engage in school clubs and activities.
We believe this policy will positively impacts on our school community by promoting a more focused learning environment, stronger social connections, and a safer online space for all students. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in making our school a place where students can learn, grow, and thrive without the distractions of mobile phones.
The key benefits of our system are as follows:
- Improved Focus and Concentration: Removing the distraction of mobile phones from classrooms will enable our students to concentrate better on their studies, resulting in improved academic performance.
- Enhanced Social Interaction: Students will have more opportunities to engage in face-to-face conversations with their peers during breaks, fostering better social skills and relationships.
- Reduced Cyberbullying: By limiting access to mobile phones during school hours, we can create a safer and more inclusive environment, reducing the potential for cyberbullying incidents.
- Safeguarding: New guidance on filtering and monitoring internet access in schools now applies – this is active on all of our school devices. 4G internet sits outside of these systems so this approach will allow us to ensure that all students are using the internet safely in school.
- Encouragement of Physical Activity: Without the constant allure of screens, we hope to promote physical activity during breaks, contributing to the overall health and well-being of our students.
